    Hibiscus Tea and Blood Pressure

Research has found a range of health benefits associated with hibiscus tea. One of the most impressive being hibiscus teas potential to safely and naturally lower blood pressure.

The ABS reports that nearly 1 in 3 Australians over the age of 18 has high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a leading cause of strokes and heart attacks, so ensuring we keep our blood pressure under control is important. Several studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower both systolic (upper number) and diastolic (lower number) blood pressure. In one study, drinking Hibiscus Tea blends lowered systolic blood pressure by an average of 7 points.

Although drinking Hibiscus Tea may lower blood pressure the most important natural treatment for high blood pressure involves dietary and lifestyle changes (download our free eBook on 8 Rules for a Healthy Life). Increasing exercise, decreasing intake of salt, caffeine and processed foods are immediate steps that aren’t too difficult to implement.  In addition, eating a diet high in plant-based foods including celery, onions, garlic, parsley, apples and olive oil as they are known to lower blood pressure.

Hibiscus is a stand-out herbal treatment that may lower blood pressure. A 7-point drop may not be dramatic reduction but drinking a tea that tastes similar to cranberry can be an easy and enjoyable step to improve your health naturally.

A great Australian made product from North NSW is Healing Concepts Organic Hibiscus Tea which is also high in Vitamin C. Hibiscus Teas sold in supermarkets are often sweetened with sugar which does little to improve your blood pressure so look for a home-grown blend.  Healing Concepts Organic Hibiscus Tea is one of our Naturopath Approved Products.
