Nick, one of our Gr8 Health athletes, has been on an incredible journey towards the pinnacle of his sport – the Olympics. His unwavering commitment to his craft, coupled with his spirit, has propelled him forward on this path to greatness.

Join us as we delve into Nick’s remarkable journey, from the early days of training to the exhilarating moments of competition – we asked and he answered. Witness firsthand the trials and triumphs, the setbacks and successes, that have shaped him into the exceptional athlete he is today!

What made you want to get into this sport and why?

The reason I got into Skeleton was because I loved snow and cold weather sports, I was also very into my extreme sports when I was younger so Skeleton was the perfect fit for me.

What are three things that you do to maintain a healthy lifestyle as an athlete?

I like to have a balance of different foods. Im fortunate that I don’t have to stick to a strict calorie diet so I can have a variety of foods.

The second thing is, I like to go for walks and take my mind off the daily tasks and things I have to think about. So finding time every day to remove myself and reset.

The third thing is having a water bottle with me to remind myself to drink water! Sometimes I’m not good at it, but it’s something I try to do because keeping hydrated is so important.

How many times a week do you train?

I currently train 6 days a week. That includes 2 sprint sessions, 3 gym sessions, 1 plyometric session. As well as a few small stretching sessions.

Was your goal to become a professional athlete with your chosen sport?

Initially going to the Olympics wasn’t the goal for me, I started the sport because I thought it looked like fun and i just wanted to push myself in a new sport and environment. As I improved I realised I could actually go to the Olympics for the sport so decided to invest more and push myself even further.

What is something that you would like to achieve throughout the season?

My goal for this season was to change my driving style of the sled. So re-teaching myself a new driving style was the goal. This was in the hope of making myself more aerodynamic and therefore faster down the track.

What do you see yourself accomplishing in the next 5 years?

The big goal for me over the next 5 years is to qualify for my second Olympic Games in Milano/Cortina 2026. Im putting everything I have into making that happen at the moment.

What sporting achievement are you most proud of and why?

I would have to say qualifying and competing for Australia at the 2022 Winter Olympics. But there have been a lot of smaller races that I competed in that I am really proud of. Just the way I handled pressure and overcame a lot of different factors to show up on race day and have a good performance is something I’m really proud of.

    What gets you motivated?

The thing that motivates me the most is getting the best out of myself and pushing myself physically and mentally as far as i can. Having long and short term goals also helps me stay motivated like hitting targets in the gym or the running track, and qualifying for the Olympics.

Which strengths do you believe you have that makes you a good athlete?

I think my biggest strength as an athlete is my mental strength. Being able to overcome challenges and dynamic environments and still have a good performance is what I consider myself my biggest attribute.

What does your diet and nutrition plan look like when you’re getting into shape in your training season?

Because of the training load I have in my training season I have to make sure i am having a lot of protein in my diet. Especially around my strength training. I have to also make sure I am eating enough for for the high training loads. So lots of carbohydrates and protein. This comes in the form of food and supplements like shakes and powders.

What Gr8 Health supplements do you use to keep you healthy?

Currently I am taking Macro Mike Macro Gut, Amazonia Raw Protein and Before you Speak Performance coffee. And I’m loving them all!

What does your cheat day look like when you are not in training?

One of my favorite foods is pizza so when I’m not in training I love to indulge in a nice wood fired pizza or three!

How does Gr8 Health support you?

Gr8 Health has been huge for me in the fact that they provide me with so many options for products and supplements that help fuel my body, recover my body and just help me be healthier as a whole. So I’m very grateful to have Gr8 Health on my side to help with my performance at the highest level.
