Improve your Health doing Something you Love
We all know it is incredibly important and beneficial to practice a sport, especially for children. Organised sport has many physical, developmental, psychological and social benefits for children. Playing sport helps learn to control emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way. It also helps build resilience and enhance feelings of accomplishment.
Playing a sport requires a lot of time and energy. Some people may think this would distract student-athletes from schoolwork. However, the opposite is true. Sports require memorisation, repetition and learning — skillsets that are directly relevant to class work. Also, the determination and goal-setting skills a sport requires can be transferred to the classroom.
Clearly, sports can help you reach your fitness goals and maintain a healthy weight. However, they also encourage healthy decision-making such as not smoking and not drinking. Sports also have hidden health benefits such as lowering the chance of osteoporosis or breast cancer later in life.
Benefits of Practicing a Sport
- Sports teach teamwork and problem-solving skills
- Sports boost self-esteem
- Sports may help reduce pressure and stress
- Sports practicing helps you build confidence
Sports help you socialise and make new friends
- It also helps you achieve a healthy body weight and physical health
We chatted with swimmer and amazing athlete Moesha Johnson, our health ambassador and she agrees – practicing a sport is vital for kids, teens and adults.
“Sport provides such a depth of development: from health to community to vital life skills. Sport teaches us resilience, patience and commitment just to name a few. It improves our physicals and mental health and it provides great community of friendship and support.” – says Moesha.
While practice alone cannot determine outcomes in sports (there’s also a strong genetic component), its importance cannot be underestimated. Practice builds sport-specific wisdom, allows you to react quickly, and makes you “unconsciously competent.”
And, of course, we have a huge range of products that can help you achieve your goals and continue practicing your favourite sport in Gr8 Health!
