Our Naturopaths Say

A great product which naturally helps to reduces symptoms of hot flushes, mood swings, vaginal dryness and helps to support adrenal function.

Description

A lot of women entering menopause associate the term “hot flushes” and “night sweats” as one and the same. However, they are not. Nights sweats occur at… you guessed it, nighttime, and hot flushes occur during the day. Hot flushes can occur at the most inconvenient of times and often see us carrying around a handkerchief or carrying an endless supply of tissues in our handbag to wipe away those bubbles of sweat on our forehead or top lip. About 2 in 10 women never get hot flushes. Others have hot flushes for only a very short period of time. Others can have them for 11 years or more. On average, however, women get hot flushes or night sweats for about 7 years. Oh, it gets better, there’s nothing, nada, zero you can do to avoid hot flushes around menopause, but you can stay away from triggers that may make them more frequent or more severe. Common ones include:
  • Stress
  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol
  • Spicy foods
  • Too much red meat
  • Tight clothing
  • Heat generally
  • Cigarette smoke.

WHAT’S IN IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

Black cohosh has a long history of traditional use in North American Indian medicine and has been widely used in Western cultures since the early 1800s as a relief for hot flushes during menopause. It’s a hormonal modulator and a uterine tonic.

Sage and Astragalus have been used for centuries in traditional Western and Eastern medicine and are our key herbs for those suffering from sweats and night sweats. With these 2 precious herbs, Meno Calm has you covered for both day and night. Astragalus is also widely used in Western herbalism for maintaining healthy adrenal gland function, which is important because the adrenal glands produce several hormones that are involved in supporting the body’s response to stress.

Beta-carotene is a Vitamin A precursor which is known to help the body produce natural lubricants down there, thus fending off virginal dryness. During our journey in creating the Menopause Collection, we heard that there are 2 other common symptoms women experience along with night sweats and hot flushes – vaginal dryness and mood swings. Now, some of you were quite happy to see your little friend dry up, but we found there were many more of you who found this symptom of menopause rather inconvenient. Natural vaginal lubrication is largely driven by the hormone estrogen and plays a crucial role in both sexual intercourse and vaginal health. When estrogen levels are low, it can cause the vaginal tissue to become thin, fragile, and dry making sex painful. Beta-carotene can help address this as it contributes to Vitamin A intake, and Vitamin A is known to help the body produce mucopolysaccharides and provide moisture where you need it most.

Hops. Now that we have got virginal dryness out of the way, let's deal with the occasional mood swing. Some of us don’t like to admit it, but we can get a bit moody from time to time, and yes, I will agree, it is NOT always our hormones making us behave badly, sometimes the people closest around just simply annoy us and we have to share that with them. We probably should have shared it a long time ago, but anyway… You simply have to acknowledge that until you have reached the 12-month point after your last period your hormones may just be not balanced. You can’t fight it, it is what it is, and so chances are you will feel a bit out of whack every now and then. For this purpose, we added some hops in there to balance and even out those hormones and relieve you of some of that restlessness. The female flower of the hop belongs to the same family as hemp (which kind of makes sense if you think about it).
