Our Naturopaths Say

Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) is a plentiful source of fibre, vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and many other nutrients

Description

Irish Moss is an amazing sea vegetable, also referred to as Sea Moss (although technically they are from different species, but they are used in the same way).  This incredible seaweed has been used for centuries to support a wide variety of ailments, from respiratory issues, bladder disorders, bronchitis, halitosis (bad breath), intestinal disorders and glandular problems to swollen joints, lung difficulties, thyroid conditions, tuberculosis, tumors, and ulcers.

Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) is also a plentiful source of fibre, vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and many other nutrients (this can vary depending on seasonality).

Pacific Harvest’s Irish Moss is harvested from an organically certified area in France (or Ireland depending on the season), and is Eco-cert Certified.  It has been tested for contaminants according to the requirements in the ANZ Food Standards Code.

Grown in EU (Ireland or France). Packed in New Zealand.

Ingredients

Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) dried sea vegetable 100%.

Details

Storage: Irish Moss is light sensitive and may lighten in colour if exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time.  Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.  Seaweeds are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the air, so seal securely once opened.

Making gel: You are purchasing the raw seaweed flakes with no processing.  Simmer in water to make a broth, or rehydrate and leave to form a gel which will keep for weeks in the fridge. Note, Irish moss gel can be applied directly to skin to moisturize or soothe as an ingredient in home-made cosmetics in addition to the below culinary uses.

Culinary uses:

  • Add to smoothies and broths as a cleansing and nourishing supplement.
  • Use as a vegan gelatin substitute in making raw desserts and to add texturea nd nutrients to jams
  • use instead of eggs in vegan baking
  • use to thicken sauces and add to dressings instead of oil
