Description
Healthwise N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is 100% pure pharmaceutical grade amino acid powder, derived from the amino acid L-cysteine. This 'acetylated' form is more soluble and more stable than L-cysteine which plays an important role in the production of the free radical fighter, glutathione.
NAC can relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions by acting as an antioxidant and expectorant (a medication that helps bring up mucus and other material from the lungs, bronchi, and trachea), loosening mucus in your air passageways.
NAC is valued primarily for its role in antioxidant production.
A test-tube study indicated that in other immune-compromised situations, such as the flu, NAC may hamper the virus’s ability to replicate. This could potentially reduce the symptoms and lifespan of the illness.
In two studies, supplementing with NAC resulted in a significant increase in immune function — with an almost complete restoration of natural killer cells.
NAC is one of the favourite supplements, of many Doctors including Dr. Leo Galland from Harvard University and Dr Neil Nedley leading experts in their field for aiding flu prevention and improving respiratory health.
In Australia NAC is not available in tablet form and is only available as a powder supplement due to government requirements.
