ChinaMed CNF Relief Formula 78 caps

ChinaMed Stress Relief 1 Formula was first recorded in the 'Summary of Internal Medicine' (nei ke zhai yao), edited by Wen Sheng, mid 19th century. It is a variant of Xiao Yao San (a.k.a. STRESS RELIEF 2 Formula CM130) which was recorded some eight centuries previously.

This STRESS RELIEF Formula (CM113) has additional ingredients that clear stagnant Heat and thus provides a stronger clinical action to calm the mind and emotions, induce relaxation and promote sleep.

It is commonly used for a broad range of disorders that are either caused or worsened by stress and emotional strain. It may also be used for conditions that affect menstruation, the bowels and the breasts. Although it's clinical actions are similar to STRESS RELIEF 2 Formula (CM130), the distinguishing clinical features include insomnia, marked irritability, a slightly rapid pulse and some degree of redness of the face, eyes, and/or tongue.

ChinaMed Calm the Spirit Formula was originally created by Hong Ji (a.k.a. Hong Jiu-You) and appeared in his book, 'Secret Prescriptions for Keeping Health' (she sheng mi pou), 1638. The formula is highly effective for a wide range of psychological disorders that arise from Heart and Kidney Yin deficiency (with failure of co-ordination between these two organs) together with Fire due to deficiency.

The cooling, calming, stabilizing and grounding action of the Water phase (i.e. the Kidney) is failing to exert its influence on the Fire phase (i.e. the Heart), leading to instability and hyperactivity within the latter. Thus, all of the essential attributes of Fire, both physical and psychological, are becoming increasingly disordered. This particularly pertains to the Spirit (shen) that is 'housed' in the Heart.

The common manifestations are over-excitability and hyperactivity, with anxiety, inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of focus and self control. We need to bear in mind that the essential features of conditions treated by this formula involve not only excess in Fire, but also a concomitant deficiency in Water. On the psychological level this is epitomized in the lack of effective functioning of the zhi. This is often translated as 'will'. However it is a broader concept that includes the faculties of will, determination, power of concentration and long term memory.

One of the formula's important clinical uses is for insomnia, particularly in chronic refractory cases. It also commonly used in anxiety disorders (including post-traumatic stress disorder), dependency on tranquilisers and dysphoria occurring in association with menopause.

ChinaMed Mens Formula is a modern formulation that is based on traditional principles as well as modern research. It is designed to assist in the restoration of normal sexual functioning in males with impotence or low libido.

According to traditional theory, loss of sexual functioning is due to deficiency of the Kidney Essence. This is generally accompanied with deficiency of the Kidney Yang. This leads to waning of the Fire of the Life Gate (ming men huo), together with insufficiency of the fluid secretions that are involved in reproduction. The former leads to difficulties with performance, while the later may lead to infertility.

Deficiency of the Kidney Essence is a relatively severe type of Kidney deficiency that may be caused by heredity, excessive sexual activity, poor diet, chronic illness, excessive work or strenuous physical activity without adequate rest or sleep. In addition, the Kidney Essence naturally declines with normal ageing.
In adults, one of the major consequences of Kidney Essence deficiency is sexual hypofunction. Once a man has experienced repeated failure of sexual functioning, 'performance anxiety' may set in. This is recognised as a major hindrance to his future ability to successfully engage in sexual intercourse, in spite of a return to physiological normality. For this reason, this formula contains a synergistic group of herbs that soothe the Liver and calm the Spirit, to reduce stress and calm the emotions.

The major part of the formula consists of plant source medicinal substances that nourish the Kidney Essence and invigorate the Kidney Yang. These ingredients have been shown ‐ either individually or in various combinations ‐ to promote sexual function. The formula also includes herbs that tonify the Qi and promote the functional activities of the Spleen, which supports the replenishment of the Kidney Essence.

It is important to note that satisfactory sexual relations are part of the broader picture of a mature, harmonious relationship, which involves openness and sharing on all levels. In addition, the ability of each partner to deal with stress, to make time for self-nurturing and to prioritise the relationship are important factors that should not be overlooked.

<div class="text">ChinaMed Chronic Sinus Formula is a chronic or recurrent infections tend to deplete the health Qi, resulting in Qi, Blood and Yin deficiency. This, in turn, means that the body is less able to resist the pathogens and a vicious cycle develops. Treatment should therefore be directed towards both tonifying the health Qi as well as dispelling pathogens. This elegantly designed formula achieves these objectives by combining the treatment approaches of two classical formulas:
<ol>
 	<li>Cang er zi San (Xanthium Powder Formula), which was first recorded in the Formulary of Life Benefiting Formulas, 1253. This formula dispels pathogenic Wind (both Wind-Heat and Wind-Cold) that has lodged in the nasal passages and thus alleviates both nasal discharge and nasal obstruction.</li>
 	<li>Yu Ping Feng San (Jade Screen Formula), which was first recorded in 'Effective Prescriptions from Generations of Physicians' (shi yi de xiao fang) by Wei Yi-lin, 1345. It is a simple formula consisting of three ingredients only. It was designed to promote resistance against attack by exogenous pathogens by tonifying the defence Qi (wei qi) and strengthening the Exterior. Thus it strengthens the immune system and promotes resistance to infections.</li>

This combination has a potent anti-allergic action, through its effects on immune function. In order to enhance the actions of strengthening and balancing the immune system, two groups of herbs have been added:

ChinaMed Mood Uplift 2 Formula is an empirical formula that has been designed to address the main pathodynamics that lead to depressed mood: Heart Qi and Blood deficiency with Phlegm clouding the mind and senses, together with Liver Qi constraint. Clinically there is a growing body of evidence that supports the use of non-drug therapies in the treatment of minor depression. This includes herbal medicines, acupuncture, nutritional supplements and cognitive therapy.

The main problem is in differentiating patients with major depression from those with milder mood disorders and also from those who are simply reacting to life situations, which generally involve a loss of some kind (e.g. loss of a job, relationship break up, inability to achieve an important goal, etc.). In the latter scenario the experience of sadness and loss of interest is normal and expected, and it may last for a period that varies from one person to another, until the situation has been satisfactorily resolved. These different types of patients are often misdiagnosed by general practitioners, who do not have specialized training in psychiatry, and who have been unduly influenced by the marketing practices of multinational pharmaceutical companies.

Patients with major depression generally respond poorly to the various non-drug therapies mentioned above. However, the diagnosis should be made by a professional psychiatrist, who should then manage the patient appropriately. Recent evidence suggests that the majority of patients who present to their healthcare practitioner with a depressed mood do not suffer from major (a.k.a. 'clinical') depression.

ChinaMed Cardiac Formula is based on a combination of Sheng Mai San (Powder-Formula to Regenerate the Pulse), from 'Treatise on the Differentiation of Endogenous and Exogenous Injuries' (nei wai shang bian huo lun), 1247, by Li Gao (a.k.a. Li Dong-yuan) and Zhi Shi Gua Luo Gui Zhi Tang (Citrus, Trichisanthes and Cinnamon Twig Decocotion) from the 'Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet (jin gui yao lue fang lun), by Zhang Zhong-jing (circa 150 ‐ 219 CE).

The former formula and its variants are now widely used in China in the treatment of various types of cardiovascular concerns related to deficiency of the Yang Qi in the chest with subsequent accumulation of Phlegm and severe stagnation of the Qi.

In TCM chest pain may be due to Blood stasis, retention of Phlegm obstructing the Yang Qi, stagnation of Yin-Cold, Qi and Yin deficiency, Heart and Kidney Yin deficiency. With the inclusion of Salvia root (dan shen), Santalum stem heartwood (tan xiang) and Curcuma tuber (yu jin), this formula covers the first four syndromes. Thus, this formula may be used alone as a single treatment; or as the foundation for more complex prescriptions. This formula is incompatible with aspirin therapy.

ChinaMed Osteo Support Formula is a modern variant of Qing E Wan (Young Maiden Formula) from the 'Formulary of the Tai Ping Welfare Dispensary Bureau' (tai ping hui min he ji ju fang) (1151 CE), a compilation of popular and effective formulas that were used in the public dispensaries of the Song dynastic period.

The original formula was a simple combination of three herbs that were powdered and mixed with garlic and honey to form large pills. It was prescribed for low back pain due to Kidney Yang deficiency.

This formula has been enhanced with the additional herbs that promote bone density and repair, the selection of which is based on the findings of modern research together with the empirical experience of senior clinicians in China. This makes it suitable for the treatment of low back and hip pain in addition to reduced bone density in the elderly. The TCM actions have also been broadened accordingly to include nourishing the Liver Blood and activating the Blood to dispel Blood stasis, both of which are common in this age group and contribute to the development of osteoporosis.

It should be noted that this is a warming formula and should not be used in patients with Fire due to Yin deficiency with signs of dryness and Heat.

ChinaMed Defence Plus Formula was first recorded in 'Effective Prescriptions from Generations of Physicians' (shi yi de xiao fang) by Wei Yi-lin, 1345. It is a simple formula consisting of three ingredients only.

It was designed to promote resistance against attack by exogenous pathogens by tonifying the defence Qi (wei qi) and strengthening the Exterior. Because one of the main clinical manifestations of weak defence Qi is spontaneous sweating, an important action of the formula is to strengthen and secure (or 'consolidate') the Exterior, which equates with tightening the pores and astringing the sweat.

The modern uses for this formula centre on its adaptogenic action in promoting and balancing the immune system. It is commonly used to strengthen, support and balance immune function in a variety of chronic or recurring conditions, as listed above.
